I know, I know—after all my homemaking talk, you’d think I have everything perfectly under control. But let me tell you, I get behind just like everyone else. And right now? I am very behind.
Cold and flu season has hit our household hard—someone has been sick every other week since September (send help and soup!). The laundry has piled up, the clutter has taken over, and for a moment, I started to feel that creeping sense of defeat.
But instead of spiraling, I turn to my trusty 5-Minute Reset. It’s my go-to when I need to reclaim a little order without drowning in an all-day cleaning frenzy.
Here’s how it works:
- Pick one space that desperately needs attention. Just one! No need to tackle the whole house—small wins matter.
- Gather supplies:
- A basket for things that don’t belong
- A bag for Goodwill donations
- A trash bag for anything broken or just ugh
3. Set a timer for 5 minutes. You can do anything for 5 minutes!
4. Sort by category to make the most of your time:
- Toss trash and broken items.
- Collect out-of-place items in the basket.
- Let go of things you no longer want or need (goodbye, clutter!).
Use any leftover time to put things away and make the space look pretty. If not, no stress—the hard part is done!
And that’s it. Simple, quick, and surprisingly powerful. Sometimes, a reset sparks the motivation to keep going. Other times, it simply quiets the negative self-talk and reminds me that I am in control of my home—even when life gets messy.
A win is a win. ❤️
